Affirmations: What are they and why do they work?
Affirmations are positive or affirming statements that replace negative talk. Our minds are deeply powerful, but most of us lack the tools we need to tap into that power. Even if you have been practicing affirmations – which is an incredible tool – they aren’t as effect if you don’t know how they work.
The mind can only hold one idea at a time. So if you have been telling yourself a negative story or you’ve fallen into a negative thought pattern, you can use a positive affirmation to replace that thought. Practicing affirmations works because you create the habit of replacing the negative with the positive.
So how do you know you’re it right?
Affirmations are easy! However, there are a few guidelines to ensure that the mind is properly digesting your intended message. Here are some things to remember:
- Affirmations must be practiced: You should practice them often to reinforce your intention
- Affirmations should be in the present tense: Even if you’re speaking about something that is to come, you should speak about it as if it is already done.
- Affirmations only work on you: Focus on yourself. You can only affirm things for YOU.
- Affirmations need to make sense: If you don’t believe what you’re asking for is possible, you won’t see success. Make sure you’re affirming something that you believe to be a possibility.
